Christmas at the house

Plan a group meal in the chef-style kitchen and dining areas, game-room time with the wet bar, arcade games, pool table, shuffleboard and poker table, and a quiet evening together in the vaulted great room. The house does not promise holiday decorations.

Winter evenings come early in northwest Montana. The private hot tub and private sauna are ready for warming up, and the fire pit with seating is a place to gather when the sky is clear. Dress for cold conditions and follow the safety guidance provided with the home.

Ski Blacktail Mountain

Blacktail Mountain Ski Area is in Lakeside, the same small Flathead Lake community as The Tamarack. Opening day and holiday operations depend on snow and conditions, so check the ski area directly. The Tamarack is a group home, not a slopeside condo, and is not ski-in/ski-out. Garage and driveway parking help with vehicles and gear.

Whitefish Mountain Resort lists a 2026–27 season of December 4, 2026–April 4, 2027, conditions permitting; it is an independent business with its own holiday schedule. See the Blacktail Mountain ski guide for more planning notes.

Planning Christmas as a group

Start with the live calendar, because holiday weeks are among the first dates to be requested. Once the house is secured, agree on who arrives when, which households take which bedrooms and how the group will share meals and groceries. Holiday travel can be busy, so build some flexibility into arrival plans and check current road and flight information before departure.

Make room for everyone’s pace. Some guests will want an early ski start, others a slow breakfast and a walk; the house works for both, with shared spaces for coming together and six bedrooms for stepping away. Agree on a meeting time for dinner each evening, keep one person in charge of checking ski area operations and road conditions, and let the rest of the plan stay flexible. The goal is a relaxed Christmas together in Lakeside, not a packed schedule.

Keep the days simple. A shared Christmas meal, a game-room tournament, an evening around the fire pit and a quiet morning in the hot tub can make the week memorable without overloading the schedule. Leave at least one day open for whatever the weather allows, whether that is a ski day, a drive through the valley or staying in. Before you commit, confirm the guest count, list vehicles for garage and driveway parking (there is no street parking), note any dogs (the home is dog friendly, pet fee applies) and review the house rules and cancellation terms in the booking flow. Arrival instructions and the exact address are shared with confirmed guests before arrival.

Christmas week around the valley

Check the official Whitefish Chamber listing before considering the Christmas Stroll in downtown Whitefish on December 11, 2026. Kalispell, Whitefish and Bigfork are each a drive away for dining and shopping; travel times vary with route, season and road conditions.

Glacier National Park is open in winter with limited roads and services; check National Park Service conditions before planning any park outing. Flathead Lake can be enjoyed from public access; the property has no private, deeded or property-specific lake access, dock, slip or boat. Staying through the end of the year?
